Letter of invitation to participate in a study on truth-telling and benignly intended deception in medicine

Dear Sir/Madam,

You are invited to participate in a research project about doctors' use of deception in medicine. The research is carried out by Daniel K. Sokol, a PhD candidate at the Imperial College Faculty of Medicine in London .

The project, which is funded by the Wellcome Trust, is setting out to:

• explore the views of doctors, patients, medical students and members of the public on issues relating to truth-telling and deception in medicine
• suggest ways to improve current practice and policy regarding the disclosure of information to patients
